CLASSMATES
The 2008 reunion committee researched the progress of our class in the 35 years since graduation, and published that research, together with additional updates from individuals, in a report titled: "What's been did;and what's been hid". TO DOWNLOAD A PDF COPY OF THAT REPORT, CLICK HERE!
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO REGISTER ON THIS PAGE, and upload a short summary of your last FIFTY YEARS. Failure to do so will invite the penalty of people supplying their own content, true, false or embarassing! We especially want those of you who cannot make it to the 50th reunion to fill in the blanks for the rest of us who will, no doubt, be fabricating stories about you.

After graduating I went to Europe, got admitted in Alberta, then Saskatchewan and then took off again for 6 months travel around the world before deciding it was time to get on with adult life. Dave and I got married (after an 8 year off and on courtship), I went to work for Pan Canadian (boring) and then joined the ERCB where I spent the next 17 years. I was then given the opportunity to join the ADOE as department head of regulatory affairs (utility regulation). I thoroughly enjoyed the hearings, appeals (including 1 appearance at the SCC) and federal/provincial negotiations. In 2007 we moved our existing cottage at Buffalo Lake onto the adjoining lot and built the dream retirement home. I retired in 2011 and we have spent the time summering at the lake with friends of 40+ years and wintering in Arizona. Unfortunately Dave and I both developed health problems begining in 2012 so have not travelled as much as I would have liked. And as health has deteriorated, we sold the cottage and have listed the dream house and plan to move back to a condo in Calgary. Along the way we had 2 wonderful children, Christie and Jack, and have two adorable grandgirls. |

Retired for the second time. Retired from the Department of Justice, Canada 12 years ago. Was asked to join the Yukon Territorial Government, Litigation, to fill in a mat leave. The 'baby' was 10 before I retired again. Now though I will remain retired or so I think. Law never leaves you and I sit on a number of Boards. I try not to let this interfere with the fun part of life. Living in the north has been awesome. Climbing Mt. Logan, competing in World Master's Biathlon, sea kayaking Alaskan waters (will do 8 weeks of ocean paddling this summer) and so much more. Prosecuting up North has also been awesome. Experienced the indigenous culture first hand. Ate the contents of a walrus stomach (not as bad as it sounds) camped at the floe edge (women not allowed so felt very privileged on obtaining the Elder's permission to go), muskrat skinning ..... Family is great. Have an awesome grandchild. A bit of bias here. Gave her riding lessons. Might be a mistake. Think I will soon be buying a horse. They say it isn't the purchase but the upkeep which deletes the bank account. |

Comment: I am now retired after 20 years as a Master at the Court of Queen's Bench in Calgary and 17 years of private litigation practice with Crowe Duhamel Manning in Red Deer. My wife and I spent our first winter in Palm Springs and it will not be our last escape from the Great White North. Kayaking, biking and golfing at Sylvan Lake keeps me active May to September. |

I married my sweetheart, Margaret in May 1970, and we have three children. One son lives in Salmon Arm, a daughter in Toronto, and one son with his PHD on staff at Sacramento University, California...guess where we like to holiday?? In April 1975, my classmate Dick Meindersma, myself, and our friend Gerald Polack formed a firm and we practised together for 28 years. For the first 12 years of practice, I did criminal law almost exclusively. Then I switched to a more general practice, with a specialization in Family Law. Though based in Edmonton, my practice routinely took me to the NWT's, and I was an active member of both the Alberta and NWT Bars for in excess of 30 years. In fact, as a direct result of my petitioning to the Alberta Law Society, they decided to create and award membership pins, based on 'years of service'. In 2002, I decided to retire from private practice, when Jean McBean QC approached myself and two others. She asked if we would consider helping her set up a Legal Aid Family Law Firm for the city of Edmonton. I reluctantly agree to give it one year; five years later I retired July 1st 2007 (somewhat past my 'best before date')! We decided to move to the Shuswap, where we built a new home and have never regretted retirement, nor our move. By the way, for those Albertans who believe that Pigeon Lake is a lake, come visit the Shuswap Lake with 1100+ miles of shore line! My hobbies still include vintage cars, and collecting and restoring antiques, along with: Glee clubs (singing), music (playing), theatre (acting), fishing and boating, and travel. Unfortunately, there are just not enough days in the weeks to accomplish most of what I attempt. Margaret and I recently celebrated our 48th anniversary and look forward to many more. Sorry I could not make the reunion, but my thoughts and memories are with my former partners: Dick Meindersma and Gerald Polack, and friends Steve Burgess, Terry Lock, and George Repka. Have a wonderful time! Ken |

Recalling my recent past: after declining an appointment to the Supreme Court of Canada (did not want to relocate to Ottawa) and completeing my term as Chair of the UN High Commission on Refugees, I required something more physically stimulating. Unfortuantely I failed in my attempt to summit Mount Everest having to turn back after the Hillary Step to carry down one of my fellow climbers who was suffering from severe altitude sickness. To satisfy my wonderlust, I spent the next year backpacking through over 150 countries. OOOPS? end of dream sequence. After having been in general pratice in Drayton Valley 41 years after 2 years in Wetaskiwin, I completed my retirement with the Duncun Craig LLP satellite office here October 1st of 2017. My wife Brenda and I continue to reside on our acreage outside DV. While Brenda continues her part-time engagement in education after over 40 years of fulltime teaching at the high school level, I continue my volunteer comitments and lifetime interest in photography. I intend to attend our upcoming reunion. Unfortunately I will probably remember few of my classmates based on my scan of the class photo. One exception will of course be Al Kay assuming he returns from his retirement home in Tanzania. Looking forward to seeing those of you who are able to attend. |
