CLASSMATES
The 2008 reunion committee researched the progress of our class in the 35 years since graduation, and published that research, together with additional updates from individuals, in a report titled:  "What's been did;and what's been hid".             TO DOWNLOAD A PDF COPY OF THAT REPORT, CLICK HERE!

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO REGISTER ON THIS PAGE, and upload a short summary of your last FIFTY YEARS.   Failure to do so will invite the penalty of people supplying their own content, true, false or embarassing!  We especially want those of you who cannot make it to the 50th reunion to fill in the blanks for the rest of us who will, no doubt, be fabricating stories about you.

PROFESSOR DAVID PERCY WAS GIVEN A COPY OF "MUGSHOTS" OF THE INCOMING FIRST YEAR CLASS IN 1970.
WHY HE SAVED THESE IS QUITE UNKNOWN, BUT APPRECIATED.

FOR HIS FORSIGHT AND PATIENCE AND HIS DETAILED RECALLING OF CERTAIN EVENTS ON THE OCASSION OF OUR 45TH REUNION, PROFESSOR DAVID PERCY WAS  INDUCTED AS AN HONORARY MEMBER OF THE "CLASS OF '73"

DURING OUR 50TH REUNION, PROF PERCY DAZZLED US ALL WITH HIS RECITATION OF WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OF OUR PROFS FROM 1970-73.  HE IS AN AMAZING RESOURCE!

Although it feels like it was a very short time ago that I walked into the Rutherford Library, full of anticipation to begin the study of law together with  another 130 (more or less)  of my future classmates who I expect shared my excitement and  listened to the Honorable Justice Michael O'Byrne introduce all of us to the wonderful opportunity and corresponding reponsibility that an education in the law would offer, much has transpired in the near half century which followed. After completing articles and a short stint as an associate with the firm of Ogilvie&Co, an opportunity presented itself to leave Edmonton and establish a practice with Adam (now Justice) Germain in the then small community of Fort McMurray.I couldn't have asked for a better partner nor a more favorable opportunity than that which presented itself in 1975. Adam and I practiced together for the better part of 4 decades until his appointment to the Bench. We became business partners as well as law partners. The legal profession allowed for entry into the hotel business and more recently (2006) the wine business. I was fortunate to meet Trudy, my wife of 39 years in Fort McMurray. We have 4 children, Drew, a lawyer practicing in Calgary, TJ and Brett, realtors and business partners in Fort McMurray and daughter Ali, a Dietician in Fort McMurray. We have been blessed most recently with 3 grandchildren. Although Trudy and I left Fort McMurray and relocated to Summerland BC in 2012, retirement is not on the horizon with the practice of law, hotel management and  providing assistance to the development of a BC winery (Dirty Laundry Vineyard) filling my plate. I am disappointed that I missed the 45th anniversary gathering of the class of 73 but am hopeful that there will be a 50th

After graduating I went to Europe, got admitted in Alberta, then Saskatchewan and then took off again for 6 months travel around the world before deciding it was time to get on with adult life. Dave and I got married (after an 8 year off and on courtship), I went to work for Pan Canadian (boring) and then joined the ERCB where I spent the next 17 years. I was then given the opportunity to join the ADOE as department head of regulatory affairs (utility regulation). I thoroughly enjoyed the hearings, appeals (including 1 appearance at the SCC) and federal/provincial negotiations.

In 2007 we moved our existing cottage at Buffalo Lake onto the adjoining lot and built the dream retirement home. I retired in 2011 and we have spent the time summering at the lake with friends of 40+ years and wintering in Arizona. Unfortunately Dave and I both developed health problems begining in 2012 so have not travelled as much as I would have liked. And as health has deteriorated, we sold the cottage and have listed the dream house and plan to move back to a condo in Calgary.

Along the way we had 2 wonderful children, Christie and Jack, and have two adorable grandgirls.

Practicing at Bryan and Company LLP since graduation.  Donna and I have 4 children, and eight grandchildren.  Times go by-so much stays the same.  Still love practice-so consider ourselves lucky!!

Still practicing [law and other stuff] after all these years!

I hope everyone enjoyed the pictures of our 45th reunion, taken by my daughter Leanne Curtis.  Leanne is a semi-pro photographer now, but also working hard at crafting custom fashion jewelry.  Twin sister Heather is a fashion designer and head of private label Solstice Ready to Wear.

Their mother Betsy is beckoning me to spend more time at our waterfront retreat in Parksville, while my partners in law are in denial of my plans to "wind down".  For now it appears that "semi-retirement" looks very much like a drawer full of airplane boarding passes.

See you all at our 5oth!

HI everone Rob Curtis did  a great job planning this reunion, and I enjoyed my visit with those who attended.  As for me I'm writing a book called Adam's Journey      that chronicles  the 'chills,  spills'  and thrills of my life.

For those not interested in paying the 17 cents anticipated price the short version follows.

After law school Dianne and I headed to Fort Mcmurray , where we had another child,[three in total]  caught the oilsands boom, purchased an airplane and lived happily ever after.
In 2003 Bob Campbell encouraged me to get indirectly involved in  the Dirty Laundry Vineyard, modeled  after a house of ill repute in the OK valley.   The rest as they say - is history!
To commemorate the 45th  class reunion I will on  behalf  of Bob and I present each attending classmate with a bottle of award winning DL wine. Like  some others of our class Dianne and I winter in California , spend the summers at Lac La Biche Alberta and are just in the process of going Condo .

Curtis has agreed to organize a 50th reunion in 2023 , so that is something ot look forward to !

Hi All

For a guy who thought he would never retire, I have been managing quite well in the 15 months since I left my position as Counsel with MLT Aikens LLP, in Edmonton.  My practice was essentially corporate-commercial but I have stepped away from any involvement in that area, personally or from a business perspective.  My time is taken up with my new best friend (3 times a week personal trainer), skiing, canoeing, reading, writing and being active with grandkids.  I am heavily involved in the not for profit sector, currently serving as chair, board member, mentor, or advisor with 5-6 organizations, mostly focused on literacy, affordable and seniors housing, and theatre.

Retired for the second time.
Retired from the Department of Justice, Canada 12 years ago. Was asked to join the Yukon Territorial Government, Litigation, to fill in a mat leave. The 'baby' was 10 before I retired again.
Now though I will remain retired or so I think. Law never leaves you and I sit on a number of Boards.

I try not to let this interfere with the fun part of life.
Living in the north has been awesome. Climbing Mt. Logan, competing in World Master's Biathlon, sea kayaking Alaskan waters (will do 8 weeks of ocean paddling this summer) and so much more.

Prosecuting up North has also been awesome. Experienced the indigenous culture first hand. Ate the contents of a walrus stomach (not as bad as it sounds) camped at the floe edge (women not allowed so felt very privileged on obtaining the Elder's permission to go), muskrat skinning .....

Family is great. Have an awesome grandchild. A bit of bias here. Gave her riding lessons. Might be a mistake. Think I will soon be buying a horse. They say it isn't the purchase but the upkeep which deletes the bank account.
